STAND is one of the few organisations on a global level that specifically addresses the situation of women in addiction and is a founding member of the WFAD GWG (Gender Working Group). An initiative that directly addresses the illicit drug use/addiction among women, GBV and its correlation with illicit drug use and access to health care, treatment, recovery services and barriers to treatment for women. Whilst advocating for women’s rights and contributing to the global drug policy debate.
Our Clinical Director Devon de Koker is an appointed Board Member of the South African National CDA (Central Drug Authority). The role of the CDA is to advise the government on policies and programmes in the field of substance abuse and drug trafficking, oversee and monitor the National Drug Master Plan, facilitate and encourage the coordination of strategic projects and to recommend to Cabinet the review of the National Drug Master Plan every 5 years.
